The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery of the Regina Margherita Hospital in Turin is the Reference Center of the Piedmont Region for the surgical treatment of congenital heart disease. In addition to the continuous search for new surgical strategies and experimentation with new materials, the center has always been involved in the use of cardiocirculatory assistance devices for the treatment of terminal heart failure. It is a centrifugal pump connected to an oxygenator which, thanks to an endovascular cannula system, is able to keep a patient alive who has heart or respiratory failure.
With this in mind, and in order to strengthen the concept of Regional Reference Center, it was decided to create a transport console for the cardio-circulatory assistance device currently in use at the Center, in order to be able to perform cardio-circulatory assistance systems in hospitals in the region and then transfer them safely to Regina Margherita. Here comes into play FAMAR that following the indications of dr. Pace Napoleon and of Mr. Borzacchi, a perfusionist technician with long experience in cardio-circulatory assistance, has designed and produced a transport system that will allow the machine to be moved in a comfortable, fast and above all safe way, making it in this way also available to other Departments that do not have it.
A structure with a very simple appearance but of great importance that will help to improve the quality of work of the doctors of Regina Margherita and above all of the care of their little patients, allowing to extend the use of the cardiocirculatory assistance to circumstances previously difficult to imagine.
